Natraj Dance Academy

Natraj Dance Academy, one of the leading Indian Classical Dance Schools in the Chicago area was established in 1983 by Vijayalakshmi Shetty for the purpose of promoting and preserving Indian heritage and culture. Students receive sound training in the practice and theory of several classical dance styles from India namely Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam. Students also receive training in semi-classical and folk dancing. Natraj Dance Academy is dedicated to promoting Indian dance in keeping with the strict traditions of these ancient arts. The mission of Natraj Dance Academy is to provide dance training of the highest quality while keeping tuition costs low thereby enabling all interested children and adults to learn these ancient art forms from India.

One of the oldest dance schools in the Chicago area, Natraj Dance Academy has trained several thousand students. Over 200 students have completed arangetrams from the academy and several students continue with dance professionally. Students of the academy attend classes at 5 locations – Niles, Mt. Prospect/Prospect Heights, Schaumburg/Hanover Park, Buffalo Grove/Long Grove and Grayslake.

 

Curriculum:   Minimum age for enrollment is 5 ½ years. Students are provided with a strong training of basic footsteps and hand gestures. The syllabus includes all required dance items, Advanced Theory, Essential Expressions, Advanced Dance items, Nattuvangam, Contemporary Dance and Expressional Forms.

Tuition Payments:   Classes are held once a week from September to end of May. Fees for all levels are $70 per month, paid on a quarterly basis, 3 payments of $210 for the whole year.

Registration:   The Registration form can be found on the Contact us page by clicking the Register button. All new students are required to register. There is no registration fee. Returning students do not need to register again.
